Within its project "Links for Change – Support to Implementation of Gender Equality Law in BiH“, hCa Banja Luka held a two-day workshop titled "Small Scale Initiatives Planning“, in Hotel Bosnia in Banja Luka, on 17 and 18 October, 2009.

This workshop offered the possibility to the participants to learn how to create mini-projects relating to the promotion of women’s rights, gender equality, empowerment of women, improvement of women’s status in the local community, etc. The best project proposals and ideas formulated within these two days will be financed from our budget project.

The following organisations participated at the workshop: Association of self-supporting parents “PONOS“, Association “Teodora” Prijedor, Association “Dijakom” Sanski Most, Athletic Club klub “Banja Luka”, Association “Grahovo” Bosansko Grahovo and Women’s association “Snop” Rogatica.

„Ustavni termin ‘ostali’ pod koji su svrstani pripadnici nacionalnih manjina je za ovu kategoriju građana BiH uvredljiv i diskriminirajući”, izjavio je na doručku sa novinarima  u Banjoj Luci predsjednik Saveza nacionalnih manjina RS Stevo Havreljuk dodajući da bi „ostale” trebalo zamijeniti terminom  „pripadnici nacionalnih manjina”.

„Smatramo da takav zahtjev ne zadire u položaj konstitutivnih naroda u BiH, a znatno bi doprinijelo poboljšanju položaja nacionalnih manjina u BiH i njihovoj adekvatnijoj i većoj zastupljenosti u vlasti”, istakao je Havreljuk.

Postojeća ustavna odredba „ostali” onemogućava pripadnicima nacionalnih manjina da svoje predstavnike kandiduju za mjesta u Predsjedništvu BiH, što je rezervisano samo za konstitutivne narode, zbog čega su predsjednik jevrejske zajednice Jakob Finci i član Romskog savjeta Dervo Sejdić podnijeli tužbu protiv države BiH pred Evropskim sudom za ljudska prava, podsjetio je Havreljuk.

Tema devete „X-press“ sesije u Sarajevu bila su djeca iz „miješanih“ brakova. Uvodničarka sesije Vesna Andree Zaimović, muzikologinja i urednica web portala www.radiosarajevo.ba, je istakla da je bitna odrednica „miješanih“ brakova ta da su zasnovani prvenstveno na ljubavi i slobodi izbora, te da je stoga veoma diskriminirajući odnos društva koje često nameće obavezu potomstvu iz takvog braka da se opredijele za jednu nacionalnu, odnosno etničku pripadnost.

U razgovoru sa prisutnim novinarima/kama zaključeno je da većina djece iz «miješanih» brakova već u najranijoj mladosti moraju društvu odgovarati na mnoga ozbiljna i teška pitanja. Međutim, konstatovano je i da se ta djeca bolje snalaze u logičkom objašnjenju različitosti, da bolje funkcionišu u različitim sredinama, te da, još kao veoma mala, znaju braniti svoj identitet.

Deveti sarajevski „Doručak sa novinarima“ održan je 10. oktobra u okviru projekta „X-press“ koji finansira Evropska komisija.

Women, Peace and Security PDF Print E-mail

Under the auspices of UNIFEM, and with the support of EUPM, Zene Zenama from Sarajevo together with Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Banja Luka and EUFOR organised in Banja Luka a workshop, the topic of which was “Gender Equality in BiH in the Context of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 – Women, Peace and Security”. The workshop is a part of the program “Public Participation in Peace Processes of the UN Resolution 1325” which deals with the issue of citizens’ security from the perspective of human rights and gender equality, with the aim to strengthen and supplement social capacities so to ensure a safe environment for all the citizens.

This workshop provided participants with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the content of the UNSCR 1325, gender terminology, the roles of men and women in peace building, and the implementation of this Resolution in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The workshop gave a space for the representatives of Banja Luka local communities, RS Ministry of interior, EUPM and EUFOR to present their personal views and establish grounds for partnership work. The workshop was attended by 24 participants.

European Day of Languages: Language as Cultural Identity PDF Print E-mail

Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Banja Luka, in co-operation with Republic Srpska Alliance of National Minorities, organised on Thursday, 24th September, a round table entitled "European Day of Languages: Language as Cultural Identity", as a part of the project “Neighbourhood – Affirmation of Multiculturalism and Co-operation on Municipal Level in the Countries of Western Balkans”.

The goal of the round table was to support protection and further strengthening of language tradition of national minorities, as a key element for their cultural identity and heritage. All attendees agreed that minority languages were facing oblivion, considering that these languages were mainly being nourished in private and family sphere, highlighting that it was necessary to ensure greater support by authorities towards institutional and systematic preservation of this cultural richness.

Round table led to initiation of support by the RS Ministry of Education and Culture towards organising classes of Ukraine language for the pupils of Ukraine nationality in Banja Luka municipality, who are geographically not located at one place, but would be gathered in one school for the purpose of learning their mother tongue.

Round table hosted representative of the RS Ministry of Education and Culture, Republic Pedagogical Institute, Banja Luka Municipal Assembly, OSCE Mission to BiH and numerous representatives of national minorities’ associations.
