Protest gathering of BiH Women’s Network PDF Print E-mail

Banja Luka, 24. November 2011.
clip_image001
Women’s organizations from entire BiH organize today the protest gathering due to not forming the executive authority at the state level and continuous ignorance of the Law on Gender Equality in BiH.
13 months after the general elections in BiH, we still have no the executive authority. The Council of ministers in technical mandate did not adopt neither the program of work nor the budget for 2011 but it did not distract the members of the Council of Ministers to receive their salaries on a regular basis. According to the Centre of Civil Initiatives calculation, the BiH Council of Ministers in technical mandate cost the citizens 570.000 KM!
There has been a year and a half since the adoption of changes and amendments of the Law on Gender Equality (“Official Gazette of BiH”, number 32/10) which clearly prescribe the commitment of the state bodies at all levels of the authority organization and the bodies of the local self-management to ensure the representation of 40% of one of the genders in management, decision-making and representation. Unfortunately, there is still a long way to go to under the law 40% of women representation in decision-making and management bodies. There are no women in negotiations on constitutional changes although two years ago we asked from BiH political leaders and representatives of the international community to include women into negotiation process. Because of all this,  women’s organization grouped into the BiH Women’s Network ask from legitimately elected women and men  representatives of political parties to get on work at last and stop damaging the men and women citizens of this country due to their party and personal interests.
The protest gathering marks at the same time the start of the 16 Days of Activism campaign against Women Violence that takes place from 25 November – International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women till 10 December – Human Rights Day.
